Now THAT was a ROCK CONCERT!

Posted in Uncategorized on August 8, 2010 by Todd Brassard

The rock show went pretty smoothly tonight.  The kids were all amazing.  The only thing we didn’t expect was for the show to run 3 hours long.  Does anybody know exactly what time it ended?

Anyway… hopefully will have some photos and video of the show up shortly.  We had a lot of great people donating their time and talent to get photos and video.

Great job campers!  Who wants to help PJ, Kenny, and me tear down and load-out of the Rozsa tomorrow at 2PM?  Send me an e-mail if you want to help out … toddbrassard@brassardmedia.com … or just show up … we need help!

Rock Camp Concert – Tonight!

Posted in About Us, Photos, Videos on August 7, 2010 by Todd Brassard

Its show day today!  I thought I would be a nervous wreck, but after last evening’s rehearsal, watching these kids do their thing on stage, no worries man.  These young musicians are going to put on a great show!

Here’s a group photo taken by Mark Riutta of the kids fat from a big lunch just before our final rehearsal.

The Box Office at the Rozsa says tickets are moving, but we still need to fill more seats.  If you are reading this, please come to the show!  Serious, if you love music, it’s a great show.  If you are already coming to the show, call a friend or two, help us fill up the Rozsa for these kids and break the Rozsa attendance record for a summer performance.

We have a new video that really captures the energy and spirit of our final rehearsal.  A huge thank you to Jeff “King” Frenette for sharing his talent with us all.  Check out King’s videos here on Vimeo.com.

Video #18 – Rock Camp Dancers

Posted in Videos on August 6, 2010 by Todd Brassard

I LOVE the Rock Camp dancers that come over from the Superior School of Dance and Gymnastics.  These ladies are so full of energy and talent.   I tried stepping into their dance routine to see if the moves are really all that difficult.  Um… they are.  Just watch my performance about half way through the video and decide for yourself.  Go dancers!

Here are a few highlight shots from the Rock Star shoot with Adam Johnson.  Adam has hundreds of pictures from the shoot which he will be posting soon.  We’ll get a link out to you when the photos are published.

Thursday Rehearsal Photos

A quick slideshow of some photos from Thursday’s rehearsal with more to come.  This show is going to be so much fun. I did not hear any “trainwrecks” from any of the groups. There are still some fender benders, but the crew has one full day to work those out.

Video #17 – Rock Star Photo Shoot

Here’s a little video footage of the Rock Star photo shoot by Adam Johnson of Brockit.  Big thanks to Hannah Bethel for grabbing the video camera and getting this footage.

We ran through the show a couple of times on Thursday.  I was a bit surprised and very impressed with how smoothly the rehearsal went.  Make no mistake, we were hustling like crazy to keep things moving, but everything is definably coming together.  I have to give “props” (proper respect) to campers Caitlin and Marie for volunteering to be stage managers.  They really kept and will keep the show moving along (when they are not performing on stage of course).

One of my favorite videographers, King, stopped by the rehearsal and shot a some footage.  Here is the video he through together – I’m loving it!

The big final Rock Camp Concert is tomorrow!  Hope to see you there!

Time to start running the show…

I’m pretty hard on these kids.  Every once in a while PJ has to remind me that they are in fact just kids and not professional musicians.  Which I know is true, but nevertheless, I know there potential and I want their talent to shine on stage.

Its hard to believe that the kids final show is only a few days away.  Our goal is to make the show about 2 hours with a brief intermission.  Yesterday, it took us 8 hours to run that 2-hour show.  Obviously, we still have a lot of work to do before Saturday.

We have a few big songs in the show that we haven’t even played let alone practiced yet, not even once.  Last night we made some last minute decisions and I found myself calling Hannah, Henry, Aaron, and Ben to quickly learn a song and be prepared to play it first thing this morning.  The cool part is that I am a hundred percent confidence they will know the music this morning and play it well.  These kids are truly amazing – all of them.

I think of myself as being pretty cold and dispassionate.  When it comes to putting on a show, I’m all about just putting the time in and getting the work done.  Still, I have had these strange moments watching the video footage, going through photos, and even watching the kids practice where I have just felt this feeling of pride and joy and how beautiful all of these kids are when they are working together to make music.  Sure, the metal heads were a mess at first, but man are they ever coming together now and playing some of the most technical music in the show.  And these young ladies, they are so beautiful inside and out and they just shine.  In these moments, I know that our little music camp (with all it ups and downs), its a worthy cause.

Today we are going to try running the entire show through twice.  Transitions between bands are very difficult.  We have a lot of stuff to work out yet.  I’m very curious to see where we end up at the end of the day today.  I know these, we will all be sweaty and exhausted (again).

Please support these kids by getting the word out about the final show this Saturday, August 7, at 7PM.  If we even get just 500 people in the Rozsa we will set record attendance for a summer show, I would like to see a full house.

Please post to Facebook about the show and ask your family and friends to do the same.  Add the show to every and any event calendar you know about.  It all helps!

Photos: Adam Johnson in the House

Posted in Dance on August 4, 2010 by Todd Brassard

Adam Johnson of Brockit Photography was in the house today and executed another ROCKSTAR photo shoot of the kids.

This sounds pretty glamorous, but it’s a ton of work to get individual, group, and stage shots all packed into just a couple of hours.  I had a chance to take a look at a few of the photos on camera and they looked amazing.  We don’t have much time to mess around at camp (well… maybe the metal heads do), which is why we bring Adam in … he just nails these shots for us.

I also have to put in a good word for the Rozsa Stage crew. They have been working their butts off to not only perform maintenance and repairs in the main auditorium while working around the Rock Campers, but getting all of the lights rigged and smoke flowing for the shoot.  It’s not a rock-n-roll shoot without smoke and lights and we had lots of both today.

Once again, thank you to Mark Riutta for grabbing these behind the scenes moments.  Check out Mark’s fully gallery here!

With show day approaching so quickly, the bands have started spending more time on the main stage at the Rozsa Center.  The Rozsa has a beautiful main stage but it’s also a huge stage which takes some getting used to.  One of our goals for this week is to get the stage “tuned in” so everyone can hear each other and still feel like a tight band even though they are all spread out.  Take a look at some photos of Monday’s rehearsal shot by Mark Riutta.   Thanks Mark for taking and sharing these great shots.  If you enjoy these shots, please leave a comment.
